The default Oculus Quest 2 head strap does its job of keeping the headset on your head well enough – but it’s not the best. Lots of users complain that the headset slides, that the head strap is uncomfortable, and so on. Thankfully, it’s easy enough to modify or replace the strap the headset ships with. There are lots of options online, some offer extra features such as an extra battery pack, while others just offer a different strap shape. To help you find the best alternative strap, we’ve pulled together a list of some of the best replacements you can get!

Elite Battery Strap

Key Features

  • Oculus-branded replacement strap
  • 317g weight
  • 21.5 x 17.5 x 10.4 cm

Specifications

  • Simple Halo design
  • Branded replacement part that also ups battery life
  • Easy-to-adjust ergonomic improvements

The Elite strap (both with and without battery) is one of the most popular additions to the Oculus Quest 2 headset. The Elite Battery Strap is an expensive extra that does deliver what it promises – it improves the somewhat shoddy battery life of the Quest 2 and provides a significantly more comfortable wearing experience than the original strap does. It’s easy to install and hook up, but it isn’t perfect – when the battery pack is charging, for example, it needs to be unplugged from the headset, or it won’t charge fully, as the headset will drain it even while it’s switched off.

That said, for those unwilling to try off-brand solutions, or who just want to buy the headset and strap from the same source, the Elite Battery Strap is definitely a solid solution – the main downside is the high price point for what should be a relatively simple addition.

Pros

  • On-brand accessory that fits with most branded accessories and carry cases
  • Easy to get and install

Cons

  • One of the priciest straps on the market
  • Compatible with most but not ALL carry cases
  • The battery pack loses charge when plugged into the headset even when the headset is off

Key Features

  • 180g
  • Light-weight
  • Oculus-branded replacement strap

Specifications

  • Simple Halo design
  • Branded replacement part
  • Easy-to-adjust ergonomic improvements

The officially branded Elite Strap is one of the most popular straps with much of this is down to the improved design. The default head strap has a simple band, while this does mean you can rest your head back against something while wearing the headset it also provides limited fit options. The Elite Strap steps that up, it provides halo support for the back of your head that provides a much better fit, holding the headset more securely. This also means you don’t need to over-tighten the staps to secure it, which leaves the whole thing feeling more comfortable.

Meta has carefully designed its official carry cases so that the Elite strap fits into them making it really convenient when not in use. The adjustment wheel at the back makes it easy to adjust how tight the strap is. While it may be compatible with official cases, it may not fit in all third-party cases. One of the other big advantages of the battery pack straps is that the weight of the battery at the back of the strap helps to offset and counterbalance the weight of the headset at the front. This balancing effect makes enough of a difference to the overall comfort that the extra weight isn’t an issue. By not having that counterbalance, that effect is lost, while the strap is more comfortable it doesn’t change the overall weight balance of the headset.

Pros

  • On-brand accessory that fits with most branded accessories and carry cases
  • Easy to get and install
  • Significant improvement in comfort

Cons

  • Compatible with most but not ALL carry cases
  • Doesn’t have the battery pack weight to counterbalance the weight of the headset at the front
  • Fairly pricy for a basic upgrade

Kiwi Design Strap

Key Features

  • 16mm head pillow
  • 350g weight
  • Compatible with battery pack

Specifications

  • 52-degree adjustable connector
  • Enlarged headrest and padding for comfort
  • Quiet adjustment wheels on the back

As far as replacement straps go, a lot of the good ones are expensive – the Kiwi Design strap is an exception. It offers similar fit and comfort options as, for example, the branded Elite strap. While the Kiwi strap isn’t as compatible with, for example, carry cases as the Meta branded options, it doesn’t actually offer any less when it comes to adjustability, padding, and comfort.

Lightweight and with the necessary comfort you’d expect from a replacement Quest 2 head strap, you can even adjust the length of the sidestraps via a wheel on the back. In addition to that, the strap has padding on top and around the back to provide a more comfortable fit for the headset. There’s an optional extra strap that you can use to attach a battery pack just above or below the adjustment wheel on the back if you so choose, but this is entirely optional – the headset will fit just fine with and without it.

Pros

  • Optional battery pack holder
  • Affordable option
  • Good number of adjustment options

Cons

  • No battery pack included
  • Limited compatibility with carry cases
  • Unsuitable for ponytail hairstyles

Key Features

  • 35 x 21 x 13 cm
  • 380g weight
  • 15W fast charging support

Specifications

  • Magnetic mount for battery pack
  • Battery pack weighs 140g, nearly doubles playtime
  • 5 fit adjustment points including

This middle-priced headset can look a little complicated, but it provides a lot of comfort, particularly for users who struggle with the pressure that headsets can exert on the head. The M2 version improved the headset’s balance on the head by increasing the weight of the battery to counteract the weight of the headset itself – with much success. As far as facial comfort goes, not many can keep up with the comfort that the BoboVR provides.

Additionally, the strap also offers an additional USB-C connector, meaning it’s possible to plug in another accessory – in most cases, the singular USB-C connector is taken up by a battery pack, with no option to connect anything else – or to charge and connect to a display at the same time, for example.

Pros

  • Battery pack included
  • A huge amount of adjustment and fit options
  • With a second, separate battery pack, battery life can be kept up indefinitely

Cons

  • Not as affordable as, for example, the Kiwi headset
  • Setup and adjustments of the headstrap can be complicated
  • Multi-joint setup is a little more prone to damage than other options
