Android: Setup RoadRunner Email

Mitch BartlettDecember 29, 2015 Comments (25)

If you wish to setup RoadRunner Email on your Android smartphone, it can be difficult to actually get it to work. Some people have given up and just setup their RoadRunner email to work through Gmail. You can get it working directly with the Android Email app though. Just use these steps.

These steps have been updated for Android 5.

  1. Launch the Email app.
  2. Enter your RoadRunner email address, then tap “Next“.
  3. Select “Personal (POP3)“, then tap “Next“.
  4. Type your RoadRunner password, then tap “Next“.
  5. Enter the following information for “Incoming server settings“:
    • Username: Your full email address with @maine.rr.com included at the end (this will vary based on your location. May be satx.rr.com or something else).
    • Password: Your RoadRunner email password.
    • Server: pop-server.maine.rr.com (this will vary based on your location check here for a list).
    • Port: 110
    • Security type: None
  6. When done, tap “Next“.
  7.  Enter the following information for “Outgoing server settings“:
    • Server: smtp-server.maine.rr.com (domain varies based on location check here for a list).
    • Port: 587 (May also be 25)
    • Security type: None
    • Require sign-in: Check
    • Username: username@maine.rr.com (domain varies based on location)
    • Password: Your RoadRunner email password.
  8. Tap “Next“, then “Next” again.
  9. Type a name in the “Your name” field. This is the name that will be shown to people when they receive email from you.
  10. Tap “Next“.

You’ve successfully setup your RoadRunner email account on your Android device.

Update: Some users have reported that using the following server information in steps 5 and 7 work:

  • Incoming server: pop-server.rr.com
  • Outgoing server : smtp-server.rr.com

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 plus and roadrunner installed as email. I have 2 problems. 1) I keep getting future dated emails year 2037 2100, etc. And I get many of the same ones repeated over and over.
    2) All my email return after I delete. I swipe left, I edit and send to delete or select and delete. They all return. My only solution is to delete next day.
During the day the true emails get mixed and often missed.
I have a new Samsung Tab4 and it works fine as does my laptop. Using server settings incoming imap ssl 993 imap path prefix 0/ outgoing smtp none port 587
    Help..

Amy: This same thing was happening to me. It is very annoying. I found a fix via the Web:
    1. Go to settings
    2. select applications
    3. Select email
    4. Select Manage accounts
    5. Select your RR account then scroll down to the bottom of the screen
    6. Select More Settings.
    7. Under Data usage select “Number of emails to load”
    8. Select Total.

This took care of my old deleted mail coming back to my inbox. email

I use a very simple way to access my road runner email account on my Samsung smart phone. I do it through the internet on the phone and created a favorite with this url —– https://mail.twc.com/. When it opens up you just type your email address and password and tap Login and you’re in to your road runner emails just as easily as if you had done this on a desktop pc.

    Webmail Sign In

    Email Address —————————

    Password ——————-

You can manage your road runner emails this way easily: receive, send etc.
But manage it separately from the more easily set up accounts in the Smartphone EMAIL app.

So for road runner you would use the internet access described above and check in with it every day to pick up you emails and manage their housekeeping.

But for the EMAIL app default account choose one of the following. ANDROID handles these very easily.

The EMAIL app takes a GMAIL account or a YAHOO account very easily and so it seems to me better to choose one of these as your default EMIAL account. I’ve chosen GMAIL as my default EMAIL and even added my YAHOO account to it. This was easily done because their mapping is easily figured out by ANDROID and you don’t have to provide settings.

Good Luck to All ANDROID users.

I first look at email thru my computer, read an email, and then I select DELETE FROM SERVER. I get about 40 emails a day. Still, the email that’s supposed to be deleted sill comes to my phone, so I spend a LOT of time deleting. How do I prevent deleted email from reaching my cell phone?

How can I disable SSL on my RCA Viking 10 tablet. I have tried what you wrote on how to set up an account,I still get cannot connect to server. When my smart phone that I sit next to my pad does get roadrunner, but Gmail does not download just junk not any Gmail pertinent email.

I can receive messages fine, but when I try to send them I get an error message that says “unable to connect to server” The port will not allow me to use 587 it automatically defaults to 25. The message I try to send out stays in the outbox. It eventually gets sent but only when I’m at home and no where else, even if I’m connected to Wi Fi. I have spoken to tech people from TWC and AT&T and no one knows how to fix it. I would really appreciate any help you can give me.

Hi, your instructions were helpful – thank you. Can you please tell me how to receive roadrunner email on both my phone and on my desktop computer simultaneously? It is not working properly currently – for example, if a new email downloads to my computer, it does not come to my phone and vice versa.

    Thank you!

Hi Mitch, I set up my dad’s Roadrunner email on his Android devices for him but it seems like I’m unable to see existing or create new subfolders under the Inbox. (I use Yahoo mail so I’ve never experienced this problem before.) Why isn’t there a subfolder option available and is this something I can fix? Thanks!
